Our Story

How Cloud Pagoda Came to Be

Cloud Pagoda came to life through a question that many Hong Kong families will recognise: where does an elder belong when a family home can no longer carry all the demands of later life, and when the institutional alternatives feel too far removed from everything familiar?

Our founders — a small group of people connected by their own experiences caring for ageing parents in Kwai Chung — wanted to create something different. Not a facility that felt clinical. Not a place where Cantonese culture was an afterthought. A home, in the truest sense, where routines are shaped around the people living there.

Cloud Pagoda opened its doors in 2009. Since then, more than 180 residents and their families have passed through, and the spirit of the home has remained the same: slow mornings, good food, gentle companionship, and a deep respect for the traditions that give daily life its texture.

Our Mission

Why This Matters to Us

We believe that later life should be shaped by comfort and familiarity — not adjustment and loss. At Cloud Pagoda, every decision about how we arrange the home, what we cook, which activities we offer, and how our staff communicate flows from that belief.

We are not a medical service. We do not employ nurses or provide clinical care. What we do offer is thoughtful companionship, a home environment that honours Chinese aesthetics, and staff who take the time to know each resident properly.

Our Values

  • Dignity in everyday living
  • Cultural continuity and heritage
  • Genuine human connection
  • Transparency with families
  • Unhurried, attentive presence

How We Work

Our Standards & Commitments

Privacy & Discretion

Residents' personal circumstances are handled with full confidentiality. We share information with families only as agreed, and staff are trained to preserve individual privacy at all times.

Food Safety & Nutrition

Our kitchen follows Hong Kong Food and Environmental Hygiene Department standards. Meals are prepared fresh daily with attention to the dietary preferences of each resident. Dietary restrictions are noted and respected.

Residential Care Licensing

Cloud Pagoda holds a valid licence under the Residential Care Homes (Elderly Persons) Ordinance, Cap. 459. We undergo regular inspections and maintain compliance with all applicable Hong Kong regulations.

Accessibility & Safe Movement

Common areas are arranged to allow easy and safe movement. Handrails, non-slip flooring, and thoughtful furniture placement help residents move with confidence throughout the home.

Family Communication

Families receive regular updates about their relative's wellbeing. We maintain an open-door approach and welcome questions at any time. Our family liaison is available throughout office hours.

Calm & Considered Environment

We maintain a quiet, unhurried atmosphere throughout the home. Activities are offered as invitations, never requirements. Residents set their own pace, and our staff follow their lead.

A Home That Understands Older Adults in Hong Kong

For many families in Kwai Chung and across the New Territories, finding a residential home for an elderly parent is a decision made with both care and concern. The options available in Hong Kong range from large institutional facilities to smaller private homes, and the right fit often comes down to atmosphere as much as logistics.

At Cloud Pagoda, we work within a small, deliberately managed household. Our resident numbers remain low so that staff can build genuine relationships with the people they support. Cantonese is the primary language of daily life. The food, the activities, and the rhythm of the home are shaped around traditions that most of our residents have lived alongside for decades.

We welcome families to visit before making any decisions. A tour, a conversation, even a cup of tea — these early encounters often tell families more than a brochure ever could. Our team is patient, straightforward, and happy to answer every question.
